SBI! Web
Site Creation Question:
Richard, why did you decide to become Certified Site Build It! Webmaster?
Answer: I formed my company, Technology
Business Services, Inc., to help startup and small companies use technology to improve their
business results. In addition to helping companies improve their management
skills (technology companies need lots of help <smile>).
For the past 3 years I've
been helping smaller companies and individual entrepreneurs with their websites.
My experience with SBI! led me to further refine my mission to:
"Helping companies use the Internet to improve business results."
Once I was convinced that SBI! produced outstanding results, I started
recommending SBI! as my preferred web business solution.
In August last year I launched my
own program to help local businesses promote products and services using the
Internet.
My first client was local businessman Larry Nachman who was trying to
publish his book 21st Century Fitness.
I offered to help him launch his
business.
We published Larry's book using Trafford On Demand Publishing
services
-- which I had encountered in my search for online Affiliate partners.
We timed
a significant presence to coincide with when the Larry's book would be available at
Traffford's bookstore.
We used SBI! because it had all the features Larry would
need for his entire line of fitness products, including a coming affiliate
program (using SBI!, of course).

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
What should I we do next? Would I be able to have my site up and running within
two months? The
3 things, that I want is to generate traffic from my site to my on line classes, sell
my e-books, and
have links to my affiliate programs.
Answer: You immediate goal is to develop content pages supporting those keywords we
talked about. You goal should be to develop a page a day. Your site will grow
about 5 pages a week which means you will have 40 pages up and running in two
months. When you get to about 10 pages we'll assess the best way to start
promoting e-books and a few great affiliate programs.

SBI! Web
Site Creation Question:
I want to build a content site that pre-sells another product. How
do I get started doing business with you?
Answer: Building great content to pre-sell is what SBI! is all
about. And, it is exactly what is needed for many online product programs. You
have to get folks to the site where they can buy your product. Pre-selling is
the best way.
There are certain things you must do in the beginning -- developing a
theme-based keyword list leading to a theme supporting URL selection. I walk you
through this process using the SBI! Manager and Action Guide. And, starting with
the SBI! templates, we work together to get the right look and feel. And, my
design associates are among the best in the world.
We then are ready for page building. My approach is to build a page template for
use in all subsequent content pages. Given the content and design template, I
can optimize a page and post it in about 1 1/2 hours.
I charge $40 per hour -- and do have packaged plans which are presented at my
Web Services site (you are here). The 20 page plan is currently priced at $2000
-- 1/3 at start, 1/3 at half way, and the remainder upon satisfactory
completion. Additional pages are at the $40/hr rate.
In all my plans I try to make you SBI! - self sufficient as soon as possible. I
support this with number of aids including a site building tips newsletter, a
site build FAQs section (this is it!) at my website and asynchronous e-mail
exchanges.
I can do direct consulting/tutoring at the rate of $1.25 per minute (best to
pre-schedule these sessions and ensure we know ahead of time the subjects to be
discussed -- saves time and money).
Here's how we get started. Once you are satisfied that I may be able to meet
your needs, you send me an email saying "Your're Hired!!!). I immediately credit
$50 to your SBI! Services Retainer account and we begin working on your site.
During this period we get to know each other and what you are trying to
accomplish -- and the possible ways to meet your needs. Before we expend that
initial fee I will make a recommendation to you on how best to proceed.
If it is on a consulting fee basis, I just keep invoicing you to keep your
account about $100 ahead of the expended services delivered. Note: you can close
your account at any time and any residual fees are returned to your immediately.
The other approach is to select one of the packaged plans (or negotiate some
other) and follow the 1/3, 1/3, and 1/3 payment schedule.

SBI! Web
Site Creation Question:
I am beginning to build my keyword list. I don't
understand "Profitability."
Answer: Presented below is a keyword list
(from the SBI! Action Guide - MYCPS!.pdf) sorted (click on any column and the
list sorts) in descending "Profitability" (column name) order. The best way to
view
"Profitability" is as the relative (to other keywords on your list)
"Demand" divided by "Supply" relationship. If there is high demand (say in the
real world for gasoline) and there is low supply, then the price (Profitability)
of gas is higher.
One caveat. If the supply is very small, it inflates the ration. For example, if
the demand were 1 and the supply zero, your "Profitability" approaches infinity.

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
How can I start to optimize my Keywords?
Answer: Your keywords need to be targeted toward niches. One
example -- your own bio targets "Your Name" which has no relationship to the site
concept and would not bring targeted visitors there.
You use your Site Build It Manager (on your computer) to build these keywords.
As an example, I spent about an hour looking keywords related to sales (the
keyword for your Sales Power tab). Rather than doing a brainstorm (something you
do after you develop a powerful list of keywords), I used a supplementary tool
(FREE) which you can access at (my own affiliate link) http://our.affiliatetracking.net/wordtracker/af.cgi?5720
(it is pretty self explanatory).
I made trial runs with "sales", "how to sell", and "selling skills". The results
yielded a couple potential additional high profitability keywords "professional
selling skills" and "principles of selling and communicating skills". I then
went back into my Site Build It Manager and ran "sales" (3.9), "selling skills"
(18.6), "professional selling skills" (56.7), "principles of selling and
communicating skills" (0). [#s in parent are my profitability scores -- yours
would be different. but relatively the same]
Based on this analysis we find that "sales" is not profitable, but both "selling
skills" traffic 1912 visits in last 30 days, and "professional selling skills"
474 visits, have good potential.
The next step is to determine which keyword would be "fit" the theme of your
page. In my mind both work. Since "professional selling skills" picks up both,
I would target it.
Your next step is to rewrite your copy to pass the Analyze It! tests. When you
complete that, use your SBI! Site Manager and take "sales.html" off your NavBar.
Next upload the new page and give it the same NavBar name. After it loads go
back and reorder your NavBar putting "Sales Power" in the #3 spot.
Repeat the above process for each of your pages.

SBI! Web
Site Creation Question:
In developing a page I
don't understand block inserts. How
do I go about building (stacking blocks) pages?
Answer: First, some web site
development house keeping. You should have a folder on your computer named
something like My-SBI!-Website. You will store all your pages as text pages for
each of the keywords you will use, eg. keyword1.txt, keyword2.txt. Each of those
pages will follow the template that Ken's daughter developed for easily building
pages (see Tips 'n Techniques HQ at Site Central
-- you should follow it.).
Site

Let's start by adding a page (you have already built your home page. Build it in
your template and save it as yourkeyword1.txt. then go to Site Central, Site
Build It! Site builder.

Click on add a page and enter the information on keywords, title and
description.
Select whether you want to include it on your home page navigation, then insert
your first block -- you headline. Click on:

and you get the dropdown menu:

And you highlight Headline, then click on Insert, and follow the
instructions.
You then will see another block insert at the bottom apear. Repeat the process
for your whole page. Note that you also use this process for Text Links, E-Mail
Links and adding a form for your Opt-In e-zine (not shown).

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
I've started building some pages but I cannot find them. How can I view the
pages I have loaded to my site?
Answer: There are two ways to "see"
everything posted to your site. Go to SBI! Site Central.
 Here they are:
(1) In the Site Build It! Traffic Center, click on "Search Engine HQ". That
lists all your loaded pages by page name and Keyword. To the right of the
Keyword column the [A] stands for ANALYZE. Click on it and SBI! will analyze
your page. [E] stands for EDIT. Click on it and you can edit your page.
 (2) Back at Site Central, in the "Site Build It! Site Builder" section under
"Edit / Delete" click on the drop down window box "Select A Page (a SiteBuilder
or uploaded HTML page)" and all your pages will be shown, click on any one then
select at the bottom of the "Site Build It! Site Builder" section what you want
to do - edit delete or show the page.

That's all there is to it! :)

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
My Site Build It! Analyze It!said that I did not have a
Headline. How do I make a Heading in my HTML code? I'm using FrontPage to
develop my submissions.
Answer: In the FrontPage Normal view,
go to your heading, and at the end click on "Enter". Go to the HTML view and
paste the following
<p align="center"><h2 align="center"><font color="#000000"
size="3"><strong><INSERT YOUR HEADING HERE></strong></font></h2></p>
Return to the normal view cut and paste your heading for "INSERT YOUR HEADING
HERE" (without quotes). Save, and re-upload your page.
SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
Do you use a separate HTML editor to build your sites?
Answer: Site builder can do a fine job (see some good hints in the SBI! TrafficCenter under
Tip'n Techniques HQ). However, it is more cumbersome than using an HTML editor.
I use both FrontPage and DreamWeaver.
I'll be glad to walk you through how you can use an HTML editor to help you
build your SBI! high producing website.
SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
What I need to do is add a navigation bar to the bottom or left of the page with
links to some articles I have written. How do I do that?
Answer: An easy way to make a separate NavBar is to make a page called something like
my-NavBar.htm in FrontPage.
On that page add what you want each of the links to say
(Like the Tabs on the SBI! NavBar). Format them as you like. (Later on we can turn
this into a graphic with highlighting with mouse role over).
Once you have done this, run your cursor over each link, click in Insert,
Hyperlink and in the bottom line of the box that appears, insert the URL of the
link (e.g., http:another-domain/pagename.html). If the link is to something
within your own site you just insert the page name.
Now here is the most important part. Once you have entered the hyperlink, you
will be back in the Normal view with the Navtab you selected highlighted. At the
bottom of the page are three tabs -- Normal, HTML and Preview. Select HTML and
where you have inserted the hyperlink will be highlighted.
In will look something like:
<a href="http:another-domain/pagename.html">YourTabName
If you are sending them to a page on your site that has SBI! navigation do
nothing. In ALL other cases you probably want the page to open in a separate
browser window (so that when they close the window they will still be at your
site). In EVERY such instance you should insert target="_blank" at the end of
the <a href entry. Here is how it would look:
<a href="http:another-domain/pagename.html" target="_blank">YourTabName
Now it will open in a separate window (SBI!'s block entry system asks you when
you insert a text link whether you want to open it in a separate window.
NOTE: you also can insert a command to have an explanation of the text link come
up on the computer screen (like the image picture names). I can at a later date
show you how to do this).

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
What I need to learn is keywords to be uploaded. Can SBI upload my keywords. Since I'm using FrontPage do I need to do it on this end?
I have some pop up code on my site I bought but don't know how to use it or
modify it.
Answer: The SBI! Manager (on your desktop) is where you master list of keywords resides.
Each selected keyword becomes the name of a page that you load to your site
through the Site Build It! Central page uploads.
SBI! has its own code for leaving a pop under. You should use it.
It looks like this:
<script src="http://www.sitesell.com/cookie.js"
LANGUAGE="JavaScript1.1"></script>
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
var visitordata = new Cookie(document, "corporate", 0 ,'/', 'your-URL less
http:// [e.g., best-managers-training.com]');;
if ( !visitordata.load() ) . . . [more script in actual version]. . .
</script>
NOTE: you can extract the entire code from my SBI! site
www.best-managers-business-online.com. When you arrive at my home page, right
click, select "view source" and find the code above, hightlight it, and save it
to a text file. Substitute your URL and pop up page, and paste into your home
page html.
Just insert it just above </HEAD>:
SBI! also provides a FREE Ware pop under script which I use at my non-SBI! sites.
It should be inserted between <HEAD> and </HEAD>

SBI! Web Site Creation Question:
I have used a consultant to develop some of my pages. He uploaded them
using the SBI! HTML loader. How
can I edit these HTML pages.
The very best way to edit your pages
would be with a HTML editor such as FrontPage. However, here is an
easy way you can edit any HTML page without learning html. Just
remember to keep your changes between <edit
only between these> the brackets.
Keep all you web pages in a separate folder.
For each page you wish to edit you will have two files, one named
your-page-key-word.html and
your-page-key-word-edit.txt. You created the text file by calling up in
your browser the page you wish to edit, right click, select view source,
select all (it should open in notepad) and save it as
your-page-key-word-edit.txt
to the folder you have set up for site editing. Save the page again as
your-page-key-word.txt. Using your Explorer, rename
your-page-key-word.txt as
your-page-key-work.html. When you double click it will now display as a
web page. Highlight a section you wish to change, right click, select copy.
Now open your .txt file, select edit, find, paste and that will take you to
where you wish to edit. Make your changes within the <text>
brackets. Now these changes as
your-page-key-word.html. View it in your browser.
Now go to SBI! -- Site Central, in Edit /
Delete, Select a Page (a SiteBuilder or uploaded HTML page) select
your-page-key-word.html.
edit, select browse, and on you computer select
your-page-key-word.html
(the one you just changed), upload, preview, build-it.
That's it.
NOTE: you also can insert a command to have an explanation of the text link come up on the computer screen (like the image picture names). I can at a later date show you how to do this).
